The Cytopathology of Virus Infection
نویسنده
چکیده
The author misstates and oversimplifies much of Freudian theories, and in stating his own ideas does so with assurance but no documentary evidence. There are a number of factual errors in the book, such as the notion that folic acid cures pernicious anemia. The grammar and style are awkward in many places, and it is written in a nonmedical style. To summarize, this short work represents the attempt of a general practitioner to substitute his own ideas concerning mental illness for those of established psychoanalytic and psychiatric thought. It is not very successful.

Intracellular complexes of viral spike and cellular receptor accumulate during cytopathic murine coronavirus infections.
Murine hepatitis virus (MHV) infections exhibit remarkable variability in cytopathology, ranging from acutely cytolytic to essentially asymptomatic levels. In this report, we assess the role of the MHV receptor (MHVR) in controlling this variable virus-induced cytopathology. We developed human (HeLa) cell lines in which the MHVR was produced in a regulated fashion by placing MHVR cDNA under the...

A multiple nucleopolyhedrovirus previously isolated from infected Bombyx mori L. larvae (BmMNPV) in Paraná state, Brazil, was inoculated into B. mori larvae to examine susceptibility and cytopathology in silk gland cells. The anterior, middle and posterior silk glands were removed from the infected silkworm at different times post-inoculation and processed for cytopathology studies by light and...
متن کاملDifferential sensitivity of normal and transformed human cells to reovirus infection.
Normal and simian virus 40-transformed WI-38 cells exhibited a differential sensitivity to infection with type 3 reovirus. A progressive decrease in viability began 24 to 36 h after infection of transformed cells terminating in complete lysis of cultures by 96 h. Normal cells were productively infected and continued to produce and release virus for as long as 14 days after infection, but exhibi...
متن کاملReinfection results in accumulation of unintegrated viral DNA in cytopathic and persistent human immunodeficiency virus type 1 infection of CEM cells
High levels of unintegrated viral DNA accumulate during human immunodeficiency virus type 1 (HIV-1) infection of CEM T cells. Reinfection of already infected cells is required to attain these levels and reinfection also promotes the development of HIV-induced cytopathology. Rates of virus production, however, are independent of the accumulation of unintegrated viral DNA. Neutralizing antibody a...
متن کاملHistopathology and cytopathology of white spot syndrome virus (WSSV) in cultured Penaeus monodon from peninsular Malaysia with emphasis on pathogenesis and the mechanism of white spot formation.
Since 1994, white spot syndrome virus (WSSV) has been detected in cultured shrimp Penaeus monodon in Peninsular Malaysia. The gross signs, target organs and histo-cytopathology for the viral infection were studied and it was found to infect most organs and tissues including oocytes, but not hepatopancreatocytes and epithelial cells of the midgut, which were regarded as refractory tissues. Based...
متن کاملSuperinfection exclusion of alphaviruses in three mosquito cell lines persistently infected with Sindbis virus.
Three Aedes albopictus (mosquito) cell lines persistently infected with Sindbis virus excluded the replication of both homologous (various strains of Sindbis) and heterologous (Aura, Semliki Forest, and Ross River) alphaviruses. In contrast, an unrelated flavivirus, yellow fever virus, replicated equally well in uninfected and persistently infected cells of each line. Sindbis virus and Semliki ...
